A tragic accident occurred in western Turkey on Sunday, February 5th, 2023. A passenger bus traveling from the southeastern province of Diyarbakir to the Aegean city of Bodrum crashed off the road and overturned, resulting in the loss of at least 8 lives and injuries to 42 others.
The Governor’s office of Afyonkarahisar province reported that the bus was operated by Star Has Diyarbakir, a well-known transportation company in the region. The bus was carrying a large number of passengers when it veered off the road and overturned, causing widespread devastation.
Videos from the scene showed the aftermath of the accident, with ambulances lined up and a crane holding the bus up to help free trapped passengers. According to reports, the injured passengers were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted that 42 people were injured in the crash, with three of them in critical condition.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities have stated that the driver may have lost control of the bus due to the road conditions or a possible technical malfunction. The authorities have also confirmed that they will be thoroughly investigating the incident to determine what went wrong and to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future.
