US House passes a sweeping gun bill to raise the assault rifle purchase age to 21.

US media said Wednesday night that the US House passed a broad gun bill that would raise the minimum age to buy an assault rifle from 18 to 21. It faces stiff opposition in the Senate.

The bill was supported by five Republicans and opposed by two Democrats.

Reports say that the bill called the "Protecting Our Kids Act," would also ban the sale of large-capacity magazines and make new rules about how guns should be stored at home.
