Rescue of 108 migrants on a sailboat in the Aegean Sea, Greece

Greek officials confirmed that 108 migrants in a leaky sailboat without a rudder were saved in the Aegean Sea while the weather was bad.

According to the Greek publication "Kathimerini," survivors indicated that four additional individuals were missing.

Rescuers were able to pull the sailboat to a tiny island off the coast of Mykonos, while the migrants were transported to Mykonos.

Greece is the major entry point for EU asylum seekers coming from Turkey. However, the number has decreased dramatically since 2016, when the EU and Ankara signed an agreement to prohibit migrants from crossing the border to Greece.
