Police detained an armed man near  Brett Kavanaugh's house who said he planned  to kill the Supreme Court justice

 WASHINGTON  – An armed man was detained overnight near the residence of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, according to law enforcement authorities.


According to officials, he was equipped with a firearm, a knife, and pepper spray. He was stopped close, the justice's residence. When he was apprehended by police, he told them he was going to assassinate Kavanaugh.


The Washington Post was the first to report on the arrest.


In a short statement, the court acknowledged some of the details: "At around 1:50 a.m. today, a man was apprehended near Justice Kavanaugh's apartment." The individual was armed and threatened Justice Kavanaugh. He was taken to the Montgomery County Police Department's 2nd District."


According to officials, the individual came from out of state and arrived via taxi.


Kavanaugh resides in the Maryland suburb of Chevy Chase. His residence was also the site of demonstrations when a draught of the court's verdict in the contentious abortion case was leaked last month.
