Ukraine has appealed to the west to send more and better cannons after running out of ammunition from its current Soviet-era arsenal, which dwarfs the Russian one.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on Tuesday that German self-propelled howitzers had arrived in Ukraine in the first shipment of heavy weapons promised by Berlin.

Ukraine has appealed to the west to send more and better guns after running out of ammunition from its current Soviet-era arsenal, which is dwarfed by the Russian one.

"We have filled the shortage," Reznikov said on social media. ... German panzerhauptz 2000 crewed by trained Ukrainians joined the Ukrainian artillery corps."

The Panzerhauptz 2000 is one of the most powerful artillery weapons in the German army's stockpiles and can hit targets 40 kilometers away.

In May, Germany pledged to provide Kyiv with seven self-propelled howitzers, in addition to five of the same artillery systems promised by the Netherlands.
