Conservative MP arrested on suspicion of rape

On suspicion of rape and sexual assault, an unnamed Conservative MP has been arrested.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man had been arrested in connection with allegations made between 2002 and 2009.

The chief whip had asked him "not to attend the parliamentary estate while an investigation is ongoing," according to the Conservative Party.

The man is also accused of misusing a public office and abusing a position of trust.

A Met Police spokesman said in a statement: "In January 2020, the Met received a report relating to alleged sexual offences having been committed between 2002 and 2009."

"The crimes are said to have taken place in London."

"A man was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of a position of trust, and misconduct in public office," he continued.
