The UK's defense minister has urged Russia to allow grain exports from Ukraine.

On Wednesday, UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace urged Moscow to do the "right thing" and release grain stranded in Ukrainian ports as a result of Russia's military operation.

Moscow has stated that if international sanctions placed on Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine are lifted, it will allow food corridors in Ukraine and avert a worldwide food catastrophe.

When questioned about Moscow's attitude, Wallace told media in Madrid, "Let's not speak about sanctions; let's talk about doing the right thing by nations all around the world."

"I urge on Russia to act in the spirit of compassion and allow the grain of Ukraine out," he said, adding that Russia was "possibly starving many nations across the world of food."
