Priti Patel stated that police officers are using food banks because they are "struggling to feed their families."

Serving police officers are utilizing food banks because their wage is insufficient to sustain their families during the economic downturn, according to the home secretary.

The Police Federation, which represents nearly 140,000 officers in England and Wales, said praise for their actions during the Covid outbreak had "amounted to nothing."

"We've seen a real-term wage drop of roughly 20% over the last decade, and other prices haven't been constant – gas, electric, and fuel costs have all continued to grow, and national insurance contributions have increased," Steve Hartshorn said at a conference in Manchester.

"Our members are told they are brave and that they do an exceptional job. They were commended for putting themselves and their families in danger when Covid swept the country, but the gratitude was meaningless.

"Seeing and hearing from colleagues who are struggling to feed their families and using food banks is frustrating."
