Police in Florida said a woman leaves four dogs to perish in a hot car while she goes to lunch.


 

According to authorities, a 25-year-old Missouri woman is suspected of locking four dogs in a sweltering car as she ate lunch at a central Florida restaurant.


The woman, who was vacationing from Gainesville, Missouri, was arrested Thursday evening on charges of animal cruelty, according to New Smyrna Beach police.


According to the police report, she left a 4-year-old Goldendoodle, a 2-year-old Boxer, and two 12-week-old Goldendoodle pups in her car while she went out to eat. According to the complaint, there was no air conditioning and the windows were rolled up.


She told detectives she checked on the dogs once during the lunch, but when she returned an hour later, they were dead.


On Friday morning, she remained in the Volusia County Jail. The bail was set at $10,000.


On Florida's Atlantic Coast, New Smyrna Beach is close to Daytona Beach.
